iPad users and gamers who long for the point and click adventure games can now enjoy the puzzles, characters and story offered in City of Secrets HD.
The 341MB game, which is also available for iPhone and iPod Touch and in the Mac App Store for Macintosh computers, is ideal for those who prefer to use brains over brawn.
The silly story surrounds a dog named Rex, who accidentally falls through a basement floor and into an underground city of moles, and is imprisoned for espionage. As his loyal friend and fishing buddy, Mr. Moles, you must go after your canine companion by navigating the underworld, piecing together clues to free Rex and unraveling a much bigger sinister plot.
Puzzle-solving, which makes up the bulk of the game play, is mostly inventory-based, so you'll walk around an indoor or outdoor area, pick up items and then use them together or in the hand-drawn environments to accomplish a goal.
Not only are the colorful characters smoothly animated in 3-D, but all dialogue is presented with full voice-overs as well as subtitles (you can choose "no subtitles" from the options menu, if you prefer). The game also has a jazzy soundtrack.
City of Secrets is also quite funny, with characters (or the narrator) making frequent jokes. A free "lite" version of the game is also available if you prefer to try before you buy.
